My
painter's eye has always been fascinated by how light transforms
surfaces and passes through glass. I have placed Victorian period
stained glass windows in front of many of my apartment windows.
For years I have watched the subtle changes in the glass colors
and room interiors depending on the time of day and if it were
sunny or cloudy. First I painted The Golden Hour (above). Reflected sunset light made the red glass colors look darker, deeper, richer. The room interior glowed golden. Next I painted Early Morning Solitude (below). I observed the red glass was lighter, the shadows cast were stronger, the room interior was a warm cream color. Capturing these subtle changes in light is an exciting aspect of painting, a life long passion. |
